PROFESSOR ANDREW MAIORANA

Professor Maiorana is an established research academic with the School of Allied Health at Curtin University. Having published over 90 papers, Professor Maiorana's research focuses on optimising exercise testing and training in cardiovascular disease and developing new approaches to clinical practice to improve health outcomes for patients. in 1996, Professor Maiorana established the first comprehensive Clinical Exercise Physiology program in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant service in Australia at the Royal Perth Hospital. Now at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Professor Maiorana practices as an Exercise physiologist in the area of cardiac rehabilitation and heart failure management, where his program continues to provide leading care to advanced heart failure patients, pre and post cardiac transplantation and left ventricular assist device implantation, including prognostic cardiopulmonary exercise testing and exercise prescription. He currently holds a position on the WA Department of health Executive Advisory Group for Cardiovascular Health Network, and is an active member of the Australian Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Association, Cardiac Society of Australian and New Zealand and the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation.

With such a high prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in Australia, we are extremely excited for Professor Maiorana to provide an insight into his magnificent work!

 DR AMAL HASSAN

Dr Hassan is a Sport & Exercise Medicine Consultant and Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH); University College London, England, UK. She undertook her undergraduate medical training at the University of Bristol where she also gained an intercalated Bachelor degree in Bioethics. Following her admission as a member of the royal college of physicians (MRCP), she went on to graduate with Distinction at Queen Mary University of London with a Masters degree in Sport & Exercise Medicine, for which she undertook research on stress-recovery patterns in pre-professional ballet dancers. She has since developed a sub-specialist interest in women's and female athlete health. 


Dr Hassan’s experience has seen her as Co-founder of the women's health online education hub Umi Health Ltd; lead Doctor for the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships, Head of Classification at Para Dance UK and a member of the medical team at Harlequins RFC. Passionate about closing the gender health gap, Dr Hassan continues to work towards bridging the elusive clinical-research gap in female athlete health. Dr Hassan’s clinical expertise include exercise in pregnancy and postnatal return to exercise, soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal medicine, exercise rehabilitation, general female athlete health, and exercise and musculoskeletal considerations during the menopause.

TITUS REMPPEL

Titus Remppel is an Exercise Physiologist who was born and raised in Germany studying at the German Sports University of Cologne. During this period, Titus had studied abroad in Auckland, New Zealand, where he later returned to work in biomechanics at the University of Auckland after graduating. Returning to Germany in 2007, Titus worked as a Sport Scientist for the German Bundesliga Soccer team Schalke 04, leading their diagnostic lab procedures performing CPET, lactate, and dynamic strength testing for all athletes.

After 3 years, Titus was offered a job at CORTEX Biophysics in national sales, before joining the international sales team in 2014. Having performed over 2000 CPET’s, Titus joined the international sales team as regional sales director but also as the product specialist for CPET. Today, Titus promotes the brand CORTEX worldwide, delivering lectures anywhere in the world whilst supporting local distributors (B-Medical).

We welcome Titus to this year’s Industry Conference to discuss CORTEX, its advantages, and applications!

ESME SOAN

Esme Soan is the Principle Exercise Physiologist and Director at Pear Exercise Physiology in Queensland. After opening Pear Exercise Physiology in 2014 to provide specialist services to women’s health in Brisbane, Esme has grown her vision to include multidisciplinary services to further support Brisbane women with their health goals.

With special interests in Pregnancy, Chronic Pelvic Pain, Prolapse, DRAM Rehab, Breast and Gynaecological Cancer Rehab, POTS & Hypermobility, Esme is also the Women’s Health Media Expert (ESSA), Director at the Women’s Health Collective/Speaker, Cancer Exercise Specialist (Ex-MED Cancer) and was the International Women’s Day award winner in 2018.

Esme is an experienced EP and a terrific presenter, and we are beyond excited to welcome her to this year’s Industry Conference!
